September 28, 2008

Today was a beautiful fall day. Grandma and Grandpa Wilson came up to see Conor's football game, and we had perfect weather. The Blue Tornadoes won their second game, so they're now 2-2. Conor had an amazing catch, from what we heard. I had to run home and get the drinks for the team that we had forgotten, and Jon was turned around in his seat talking to his mom, so neither of us saw it. Jon heard everyone cheering, and turned around just in time to see Conor getting up. Later I told Conor I'd had to run home so I missed it, and that I was sorry I didn't see it. "That's okay Mom. Because I saw it". He's a pretty cool six year old.

Here is a little pre-game warm up. Ellie is the center, and they're practicing the reverse play.

After the Tornadoes won, he changed into his Hawks jersey to see if he could get them a win. (I don't believe he did).

Ellie has learned to ride "sideways" on her bike. It looks like she's riding side saddle, and it makes me nervous.

Rowan walking behind the wagon. He actually took four steps today without holding onto anything. In fact, his arms were straight up in the air!

I'm getting tired of collecting C and E's various Christmas lists, so on Saturday we made a consolidated list to post on the closet door. Fortunately Conor had the foresight to make his double-wide. We also convinced him to use pen, not marker, on the second side so he'll have room for all the new things he finds in the next 3 months. His is pretty self-explanatory, but Ellie's may need translation: I want an American girl doll, a panther cheerleader outfit, some pajamas that matches my American girl doll. The American doll she has decided on is "Julie". Julie is from 1974, and I'm not too excited that there's an American girl doll from when I was alive, so I'm trying to convince her to switch. We'll see!

This car used to be Conor's, but Rowan is loving it. He likes to put things in the trunk, then walk behind it until he runs into something. Then, when he's stuck, he screams until someone helps him out.

The boy loves his food. Please note the (unsmashed!) pea in his hair.

September 21, 2008

Rowan hasn't shown any interest so far in climbing the stairs. Well, he definitely let's us know when he wants to go upstairs, but hasn't wanted to get there on his own. On Saturday Ellie and I helped him to the top to see Jon, and that was that.

This morning Jon and all the kids were downstairs, and I was up in our room getting ready for church. I came out of the bathroom to see Rowan opening the door to the kids' bathroom. I assumed that Jon was around the corner, joking around. I called down to find that neither he nor the big kids had helped, heard or seen him climb all the way to the top. He's now fast and quick at those stairs, and is really, really mad about the gate I just put up.

It's been awhile since Conor's made an appearance here.

I know I've said it before, but we really don't use the swingset all that much, as you can see.

Today Rowan and I had story time. He doesn't really care for it too much, but I like to have a reason to go to the library every week.

That whole "silly smile" thing? Yeah, it may have been a dumb idea to encourage that

Conor had football practice at frog park, so Ellie got to play, and ride her bike home!

Guess who tied her own shoes before school this morning? And yeah, I know that first grade is a little late for learning. When I was little I couldn't get velcro shoes until I learned to tie. I say, thank goodness for velcro.

September 10, 2008

Today was early out, and after I picked the big kids up from school we went to the dentist. Both Conor and Ellie love to go, so they were very excited all day. We go to a pediatric dentist, and the kids get to watch Disney movies with headphones, get their teeth brushed with cookie dough toothpaste, and the dentist and dental assistants use gloves that are flavored either orange, vanilla cream, or berry. The dentist himself is a bit of a fruitcake, but we usually get to see his assistant, who is a retired dentist there two days a week. He's a very nice man. The fruitcake dentist does have a rule that everyone gets a prize, "just for being you". Then you get another prize if you cooperate. Today we brought home 2 bracelets, a sticky dragonfly and a mini frisbee launcher. No cavities for either of them, and their molars are close to coming in. I forgot to take my camera to the office, so you'll have to settle for the front porch after.

We broke out the feetie jammies on Tuesday. They always make me a bit jealous.

September 8, 2008

Meet Conor and Ellie. Ellie got them for Christmas 2 or 3 years ago, I think. They haven't gotten much use until lately. Now they get to go outside almost everyday, and sometimes they even get to sleep in the garage!

Number 4 in your programs, number 1 in your hearts. The Blue Tornado lost today: 24-6. But no one had a meltdown, so that was good!

September 4, 2008

I know that this means he's getting closer to walking, but it kind of makes me think he's too drunk to drive or walk.

September 3, 2008

If you ask Conor he will tell you he "never gets to play outside." That's actually not true. In fact, they get to play outside almost everyday afterschool for several hours. On Wednesday, Grandma Wilson came to visit, and Conor played football with a neighbor. Even Rowan got to play outside that day!

Rowan had his 12 month appointment on Tuesday. He weighed 20 pounds, which is heavy enough to turn the carseat around. I had been saying I wasn't going to yet, because it reclines better facing the back, but between the three shots, the finger prick and the ear infection, I thought he could use some good news. He liked it, I think, because he talked the whole way home and pointed at all the new things he could see. The downside (for him) is that he can't see Conor anymore.

You'll notice the ball he's holding onto tightly. We keep one in the stroller and one in the carseat. "Ball. Ball. Ball. Ball. Ball. Ball."

What a good Labor Day - beautiful weather and all the neighbor kids were home and could play!
