January 31, 2010

So the finer points of football still elude him. He's getting there!

January 30, 2010

Jon and I had a date last night. We saw When In Rome, then went to Johnny's Italian Steakhouse for dinner. We had plenty of time, so we went to the mall after that. Jon has new sunglasses, and we both have some new shorts for Mexico!

Thanks Grandma and Grandpa Wilson, for kid-sitting!

A conversation with Rowan as we were driving in the truck and saw a school bus:

R: Grandpa Wilson drives a school bus.

Me: He does. That's Grandpa Wilson's job.

R: What does Grandpa Runchey do?

R (before I can figure out how much of "retired" he'll understand): Oh, that's right. Grandpa Runchey drives a yawn-mower.

This is a very familiar sight in the morning. Ellie's pretty scared of strangers these days, specifically ones that break into houses and take kids. So most nights she brings her sleeping bag into our room, and we all wake up tired the next day. (And please, please don't ask her about it)!!

January 27, 2010

I totally admit it. Sometime, I just don't understand boys.

January 26, 2010

Ellie got the mail on her way in from school yesterday. This is as far in as Conor was when she handed him his Sports Illustrated for Kids. The magazine is still down in the family room on the floor. He's read it all already.

January 25, 2010

It was the perfect night for grilled cheese and tomato soup. Even Rowan can appreciate that! (And yes, I still have the Christmas dishes out. I really like them!)

January 24, 2010

The favorite toy of the week at our house? A magnifying ruler I got at the state fair about 7 years ago. It does make excellent faces.

January 23, 2010

It's not every day that the baby gets to eat bacon. Fortunately he knows enough to savor it!

January 22, 2010

Friday was an impromptu game night at our house. Ellie had gotten Apples to Apples 7 from Santa, and we hadn't gotten to play it yet. Even Conor enjoyed it!

January 21, 2010

Every cold lunch of second grade has had a different joke in it. (Thank goodness for the internet)! It started out just as a fun way to start off the school year, but it is very, VERY popular. Stopping now is not an option.

PS - Under their covers.

January 20, 2010

Wednesday was the 5th snow day of this school year. Although it wasn't really a snow day, so much as an ice day. And ice days mean that the satellite is covered, so watching tv is out of the question. We played a lot of Wii.

January 19, 2010

Now admittedly, Ellie hasn't had very many days of school this week. But she has worn her new legwarmers everyday, whether to school or not.

January 18, 2010

The kids didn't have school on Monday, so we ran some errands and then met Jon for lunch. Neither Conor or Ellie had ever been to Famous Dave's, so we tried it. They both loved the cornbread muffins.

January 17, 2010

On Sunday Grandma and Grandpa Wilson came to visit. They looked at photo albums, then stayed for movie night. It was Jon's choice, so although he wavered between football and a movie, we ended up watching Cars.

January 16, 2010

Last night was the first Runchey cousing gathering in awhile. We went to Dave and Lynne's house, and all of us in the area were able to make it except Angela and her family. That meant that the kids were: 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 7 and 7. They had a great time, and so did we!

January 15, 2010

Sometimes mornings are hard.

January 14, 2010

Grandma and Grandpa got home from Australia on Thursday, so we went to the airport to pick them up. We didn't have to wait long, but there was a train to play on so it wouldn't have even mattered!

January 13, 2010

A friend dropped off a bag of hand me downs today for Ellie. It was full of stuff Ellie loved. (And love may be an understatement there). Included in the pile is a strapless hot pink and orange shirt that Ellie has declared "perfect for Mexico!"

January 12, 2010

Rowan's very favorite errand of all (and believe me, he loves each and every one of them) is the "PTO bank". They always have a sucker for him. And because he's not the first child, he gets to enjoy it. At home. Sitting. Right beside me.

January 11, 2010

We don't very often order from the kids' school book orders, so when we do, the selection process is intent. Conor uses a "circles and heavy xs" method, while Ellie usually has some sort of 3 star system.

January 10, 2010

Each of us got a knitted ornament from Sarah on our presents this year. I wasn't ready to pack them away, but they look so nice on the wreath in the front room. I could use a few more though...

January 9, 2010

Rowan got a "laptop" for Christmas. When the big kids play on the real computer, he gets his out as well. We hear the computer voiced "R" a lot, because "R is for Woah-wee".

January 8, 2010

Snow day #4. So far school doesn't get out until June 2nd, which seems awfully far off. Rather than throw away the old box of Fruit Loops that no one seems to have ever liked, we strung them to hang them for the birds. So far it seems that the birds don't care for them either!

January 7, 2010

Snow day #3 for this school year. That means most of the neighborhood played at our house. Ellie and her friend worked on their 5th and 6th (each!) window cling. (Great present!)

January 6, 2010

Hot chocolate with cool whip for an afterschool snack. And yes, those are his pajamas. He'd much rather wear them than get dressed. So as long as they stay dry and we have nowhere to go, he wears them.

January 5, 2010

It's 5 F out. With wind chill, it's -5 F. And while there are kids who would love to be out on those swings "because it would be awesome to jump off into the snow", no one really wants to go out today.

January 4, 2010

Monday night gymnastics, aka: I will learn how to take a decent picture there.

January 3, 2010

Standing back to back (with the 2 year old on a kitchen chair), Rowan is a bit taller. This makes Conor very angry. (Lots of stuff makes Conor very angry lately).

January 2, 2010

Christmas stuff down, regular stuff up!

January 1, 2010

If you look at the number of posts in 2009, there's one for every day of the year (plus 12/31/08 - I didn't get that one posted until 2009). Now I admit, there are a few (several?) fudges, but for the most part I took a picture every day of last year. (Applause, applause).

I've been having a hard time deciding if I was going to keep this going. I'm in a pretty good habit of keeping the camera close by, so I'll definitely keep taking pictures (hopefully each day). It's the getting it to the blog part that's a pain. (And some of you are not so quiet when I slack off on that).

But I'm going to keep posting them. I don't promise that there will be new pictures more than once a week or so. And I'm pretty sure there will be some that are boring to you (maybe not of the kids every day!). I've decided 2010 is going to be snapshots of things I'm going to want to see in 25 years or so. (Scrapbook to follow!)

Conor and Ellie are supposed to read for 300 minutes each month. December was tough, but we made it. We're starting January out right. An easy way to get minutes is to read to Rowan.
