April 30, 2009

Honestly, most of the time he's quite smart. He has a huge vocabulary. He knows yellow is a good answer to "What color is that?", although he's usually wrong, colorwise. He knows that if there's more than one of something, then "2" is a good guess. But today...

The best part, which you can't hear over Ellie setting the table, is that everytime he ran into something, he'd giggle. That must have messed up his sense of direction, because then he'd run right into the same thing.

"Rowan" got a new basketball hoop that's just his size. Conor just can't understand why we don't want him to dunk or play one of his imaginary games on it.

Although Conor still insists Rowan is saying "My turn Ca-co", he's really saying "Made it, Ca-co". (Ca-co would be Conor).

April 28, 2009

You know Tuesday means gymnastics pictures. This is one gymnastics move that always eluded me. I just love watching it!

The always necessary chalking of the hands.

April 27, 2009

Rowan spends a good portion of the day sprawled on the floor. Usually with a wheeled toy, sometimes with a book. Tile, carpet, it doesn't matter.

April 26, 2009

So, uh, anybody going to the farm? There's more, you know. They're just on another stack.

April 25, 2009

First day of "summer" hair.

April 24, 2009

Last day of "winter" hair.

April 23, 2009

This slide just may save my sanity this summer. It was filthy from being in the basement, but Rowan helped clean it up.

April 22, 2009

Is he a spiffy dresser, or what?

April 21, 2009

I know this isn't new news, but I still think it's pretty cool. She did it again tonight.

Everything you need to have a 7th birthday party. (Two of them, in fact).

April 19, 2009

Each month that the kids meet their reading goal, they get a personal pan pizza coupon from Pizza Hut. Last night was Ellie's movie night, so she picked to get her canadian bacon. It looked very good!

April 18, 2009

Saturday was the last skating party of the year. Once again, Jon and Rowan stayed home, but this time we took Sarah with us. We all started out on skates, even me. I made it around once with Conor, and then put my shoes back on. I couldn't be on wheels and help him at the same time. I walked around the rink with him once or twice while Sarah skated with Ellie. That put a bit of a crimp in Ellie's social style though, so Sarah took over Conor duty. Although I can't figure out how to rotate the movie, it's worth posting so you know what she went through most of the night. As athletic as he is, he did not take to skating so well. To his credit (and my complete surprise) he never gave up. He took two breaks for Gatorade, but other than that, he kept trying. Most of that may be due to Aunt Sarah's being there.

By the end of the night, here's what we saw. Please notice he's not gripping the wall with his other hand. (Thanks Sarah!)

April 17, 2009

It's time to sort the summer clothes. I love hand-me-downs!

April 16, 2009

He is available for hire!

April 15, 2009

Dear Hy-Vee,
Your prices are a bit higher, but this cart almost makes up for it. We'll be back.

(A better wife/mom would have a picture of the kids with their Dad on his birthday. Oops.)

April 14, 2009

Here's the after school pick up view. Most days he's smiling, but not always. Ellie's not usually smiling because her mouth is usually moving. She always has lots to report!

April 13, 2009

Rowan and Ellie share an after school snack. He even let her (expected her to?) feed him bunny crackers with a spoon.

April 12, 2009

Happy Easter! This is absolutely the best picture of the three of them. Conor was crabby and Rowan had better things to do.

This girl though? She can always pose.
See? Even first thing in the morning, with a chocolate bunny she looks cute.

The bunny brought bubbles, a dart gun for Conor, chalk stencils for Ellie, and a little car for Rowan. "Elmo car. Elmo car. Elmo car. Elmo car. Elmo car. Elmo car." You get the idea.

He may be crabby a lot, but isn't he handsome?

April 11, 2009

On Saturday we went to Cedar Falls. The kids always have fun, especially when there are aunts there. Conor made grape juice from green grapes. We found out it takes a lot of grapes to make one swallow.

Ellie helped Sarah make the best pie in the world. I love that banana cream pie.

Conor helped make the crust for the strawberry-rhubarb pie. Yes, that is a big sharp knife. Sometimes aunts are cooler than moms.

Rowan found even more people to entertain him.
Oh yeah. Jon and I were there too, but of course no pictures.

April 10, 2009

A crazy Uno game. Rowan just didn't get it. Neither did Ellie, for that matter. She was so excited whenever she got a match.

April 9, 2009

Eh-dee and Woah-wee.

April 8, 2009

Rowan got a hair cut this week. He is actually happy about it, contrary to photographic evidence.

April 7, 2009

Of all of the people who filled out a bracket for the NCAA tournament on Yahoo, Conor finished #8,020. That's in the 99th percentile. Just another virtual trophy on his shelf. (Click on the picture to make it bigger).

We gotta get this girl to a wedding.

April 6, 2009

One of our normal after school snacks is pudding in baby food jars. About a tablespoon and a half of pudding, then fill it up with milk and shake. Except for a few leaks, it's pretty yummy!

April 5, 2009

Yeah, that's right. I said April. And we're not even under a blizzard warning like the rest of the state.

April 4, 2009

Ellie's been fighting a cold the past few days. She spent most of the day Saturday reading in her jammies, and took a two hour nap. She woke up today feeling much better!

April 3, 2009

Rowan mows the lawn, and tries to get as far away from me as he can before I make him turn around.

April 2, 2009

Conor and Ellie's vocal concert was on Thursday. They were beyond excited. We figured they'd be too nervous to enjoy it, but they had a great time. They'd told us before we went that we could wave at them, but it woudn't look good if they waved back. (They both forgot that rule). Conor didn't look at us too much, because "it would have looked silly if I'd been turning in that direction all the time". Once it got started, the whole concert lasted 20 minutes. That left us plenty of time to stop at Dairy Queen on the way home.

April 1, 2009

This little reading session resulted in Rowan's fascination with the word "Cockatoo". Just ask him to find the picture, and he'll repeat the word for hours.
