February 27, 2009

Ellie did a little painting. The striped turtleneck is what she uses for a smock, as anything that resembles an actual smock would make her cry.

On Thursday, Rowan and I did some organizing. Mine:

Wednesday was beautiful, so everyone got to play outside. Football practice and chalk, mostly. And face shots without a flash.

George Raveling (sp?).

After school snack for everybody, while watching Zach and Cody.

February 22, 2009

On Sunday, Conor and Ellie's pizza was a personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut that they earned by reaching their reading goals in January. Although Conor not so politely pointed out that he had ordered thin crust, they both loved their own pizza.

February 20, 2009

I'm not sure who he's talking to. I'm guessing Bompah or Daddy.

February 19, 2009

On Thursday Jon and Conor went to a basketball game in Van Meter. We met at the mall to play a bit and have dinner before they went. Conor and Ellie had fun, although they were the biggest ones there. They would have liked to have been able to run a little more freely. Rowan practiced his stairclimbing.

February 18, 2009

If there is a little time in the morning before we need to leave for school, C and E get to watch a little tv. Because someone tends to drag his feet and roll around on the floor complaining as we're trying to get out the door, today we started a new rule. Shoes, coats and backpacks must be on before the tv is turned on. (Hat and mittens are optional. Conor wisely chose to wear them). If it were just Ellie, she could get up 30 minutes before we left and still have time to play. Not so with the boy.

Rowan insisted on wearing his coat as well.
PS - Conor does not have a vision problem. He's gargling his water. (Duh).

February 17, 2009

Rowan got new sunglasses, and they are the first thing he asks for when he's done with breakfast. He's so proud of them.

I'm pretty sure I've never been able to do this on a balance beam. The sound is completely unecessary, and pretty loud, so you may want to turn it down.

Bib overalls!

February 15, 2009

We took about 40 pictures, trying to get one of the three of them together. This is by far the best.

Rowan's latest trick. Anytime he's able to get onto the chair or couch, he expects Jon to be there to catch him. Luckily he doesn't think any of the rest of us are able to!

February 14, 2009

Sorry, no Valentine's picture. Just the scoreboard from the USA vs. Germany game. You'll see the US pulled it out in overtime. I'd thought they were playing basketball, but with that score, I'm not sure...

February 13, 2009

This morning we had no snow left in the yard. Around 12:30 it started to snow, and now we have about 7 inches. After we made Valentine cupcakes, all of us (except Jon) went out to play. Some of us only lasted 5 minutes, while others made it a couple of hours. It was a very pretty snow, but it did take Jon an hour to get home. We'll probably head out again tomorrow, but I won't be trying this (it's one of Conor's attempts):

Here's one of Ellie's attempts (she's in the pink):

Thursday was the kids' Valentine's Day party at school. They had a snack, made love bug tic-tac-toe boards, played an animal game and then opened their Valentines. They were so excited that I thought they'd be disappointed, but they loved it.

February 11, 2009

Playing nap time.

February 10, 2009

Yesterday I got to go on a field trip with Conor and Ellie. We rode the bus to Ames to see "Seussical the Musical". It was just about as great as it sounds. The kids had fun though. Ellie chose to sit by me on the bus, but Conor decided to sit with friends.
After that was conferences, which went very well. And then on to gymnastics. It was a very busy day!

He's such a big helper.

February 8, 2009

See. He loves his shoes so much, they get to go for a stroller ride.

February 7, 2009

Rowan is all about shoes and hats lately.

February 6, 2009

Ellie had a bad case of the "Hey, Mom?"s today. This summons was worthwhile.

February 5, 2009

Ellie wore her new belt yesterday. Pretty fancy, isn't it?

February 3, 2009

On Tuesdays Ellie has gymnastics, and I usually take her. That means dinner for everyone is quick and simple. Ellie usually has Kid Cuisine (tv dinners), but Conor's still hungry after that. This time we tried a Hungry-Man dinner (1 lb of food). It seemed to fill him up, but he still needed part of an orange and a dessert. I'm thinking that in about 10 years we'll need to have a bigger grocery budget.

February 2, 2009

The best part is how offended they both get when Rowan touches the game. I mean, they let
him watch, what more does he want???

February 1, 2009

Not the best picture of Rowan, but you can see the sign that says "Watch out for the field". Here's the field at the top of the steps. I'm not sure why he insists on playing there. I think it's because no one was downstairs at the time.

January 31, 2009

Saturday was a beautiful day. Jon and Conor played basketball, and kept score in the snow.

Rowan confirmed my fear that we'll be outside all summer, chasing him.

Ellie and I went to her skating party for school. She was very nervous to go, but had a fabulous time. Her best friend was there, unexpectedly. And they were both wearing hot pink bows. And they didn't even plan it! It was quite possibly the best night ever for her.

January 30, 2009

These are Rowan's constant companions: some sort of cup, and either a spoon or fork to stir. Careful - it's usually hot!
