July 29, 2009

Bria was here!

July 28, 2009

I think I may officially be a grown up now, as this new screen door makes me incredibly happy!

July 27, 2009

Popfiscal. (And then a little bit of "get over it, Mom" at the end).

July 26, 2009

Yet another toy that I brought up from the basement "for Rowan".

July 25, 2009

I apparently didn't take very many pictures at the farm. Suffice to say that once we got there on Saturday (after swimming in the awesome hotel pool, of course) I didn't see Conor until fireworks time. Ellie I saw once or twice, but even her check-ins were few and far between. There were just too many fun second cousins to play with.

July 24, 2009

Playing on the hay bales.

July 23, 2009

Both Conor and Ellie are liking swimming lessons. It's not even hard to get them to go. Although if you ask one, he's never going to be good at swimming, so why bother, and if you ask the other, she's already fabulous at it, so again, why bother?

July 22, 2009

No birthday pictures. Just my favorite present!

July 21, 2009

Another Tuesday, another gymnastic feat.

July 20, 2009

A little zerbit (zurbert?) how-to.

July 19, 2009

The words you need to know are "ice cream", "yeah", and "airplane way up here". But really, the cutest part is about 14 seconds in. That's how you eat ice cream Rowan style - smash it on your lips and then lick it off.

July 18, 2009

Jon painted on Saturday, so the rest of us had a picnic at the park. And yes, we did need those sweatshirts!

July 17, 2009

Conor got a new pair of UNI pants. I put them away for fall, but he got them out again. He was thinking the weather required them, and he's not too far off.

July 16, 2009

This is how you eat corn on the cob with three top front teeth missing or not all the way in yet. It's just not the same if your mom cuts it off of the cob for you.

July 15, 2009

Rowan and the best person in the world, according to Rowan. ("Cheese").

July 14, 2009

I finally found the box of Fisher Price Little People in the basement, and brought it up for Rowan to play with. I thought I was finding toys for the wrong kid. Conor plays with them just as much, and don't let Ellie tell you she's too grown up for them.

July 13, 2009

On Monday the kids and I went to the Omaha Zoo. We made sure to see the jungle, the tigers and lions, and a waterfall (Rowan's choice). We also rode the train. I was surprised that we had time to see a lot of the other animals. I was also surprised to find out that Omaha is not "just a quick 2 hours". It's closer to 2 1/2, and not that quick. We'll still do it again though!

July 12, 2009

I caught him.

July 11, 2009

On Saturday we went to the Summerfest parade. It was looooong. We left after two hours (and two bagfuls of candy), but I heard someone say later that it was three hours long. I love parades, but that's just too long for me.

That afternoon we went to "Touch A Truck". They have several trucks parked, and the kids can climb up into them and test them out. There were tractors, a street sweeper, a grader, a loader, a dump truck, a semi...

a fire engine,

a lawn mower,

a police car...

... and a "ment-y mixer".

July 10, 2009

Conor is hooked on MarioKart for DS. This is a daily scene. Two seconds before I took the picture, he was hanging off the edge of the couch, which is his new way to play. I need to catch it, but I missed it this time. It was the only picture I took all day, so here you are.

July 9, 2009

Neither of them know to come in out of the rain.

July 7, 2009

On Tuesday there was an "Instrument Petting Zoo" at the library. We were pretty excited to try them all out, but it ended up that they only had violins. Conor was not at all interested in trying that one, but Ellie unwillingly did it.

July 6, 2009

It takes very little to make these boys happy for a whole afternoon - filling the pool and mining for gems.

July 5, 2009

Playing in the park,

and cookies!

July 4, 2009

A Happy (and cold) 4th of July in Nebraska.

July 3, 2009

One of Ellie's jobs was to water the flowers. This one is never done without help. (Neither is emptying the dishwasher).

July 2, 2009

Rowan thinks he's just as old as them.

July 1, 2009

Me (in the kitchen): Rowan, where are you?

R (in the toyroom): I down here.

Me: What are you doing? (Because I can't see him).

R: I playing with Conor's stuff.

Yep, in one of his favorite spots.

June 30, 2009

For those of you not aware of it, despite his attitude towards his parents, Conor did, in fact, hang the moon. (At least it seems that way to one guy).

June 29, 2009

Monday was another family event. Matt was in Iowa for a bit, so the cousins in the Des Moines area got together to grill out and see him (and each other). These are just a few of the second cousins there. They had a ton of fun together!

June 28, 2009

On Sunday we had a little more family time. We learned that while Jaden isn't very ticklish (and tries very hard not to be at all), Bailey giggles if you look at her.

We also learned that Bailey will make a very good babysitter in a few years.

We also learned that these cousins are pretty much best friends.

June 27, 2009

This weekend was the Sturgis Falls celebration. It was also my 20th high school reunion. That meant I got to ride in the parade. I was not the highlight of the parade for the Runchey family, however. That's because Bailey, Jaden and Ellie rode with Grandpa in the convertible. I have no pictures of that, so maybe someone will send me some?

Walking to the parade:

It was also Mom and Dad's 40th anniversary this weekend, so all of us were home to take them to dinner. That meant we could take family pictures. Aren't my kids cute? Conor is grinning and squinting like a madman, Ellie is crying because she doesn't like her dress anymore, and Rowan isn't paying any attention at all.

Between all the activities, we were able to squeeze in some down time.

June 26, 2009

He heard the camera, and then knew I was there. If I'd been sneakier, you could have heard "Chug a chuga choo choo".
