July 31, 2010

This guy is ready for football season to start - right down to his new football gloves.

July 30, 2010

Lola is our neighbor's guinea pig. (Hamster? Gerbil?) Rowan is in love with her.

July 29, 2010

Library trip + rainy day + no one else home = Conor reads as much as his mom.

We need another library trip, and soon.

July 28, 2010

On Wednesday we met friends at the natural playscape. There was one other family there for awhile, but they left while we were eating lunch and then we had the place to ourselves. There was a breeze, and the water was cool, so we could have stayed all day. Not bad, especially for the older two, neither of whom wanted to wear a swimsuit, and neither of whom wanted to go. Rowan is always up for fun, so he spent his time going between the pond and the sand pile. Plus, Conor's friend David was there, and he's second only to Conor in Rowan's mind.

July 27, 2010

The planning of the fantasy football teams has begun.

July 26, 2010

He's actually kind of cute, isn't he?

July 25, 2010

Sarah picked up Conor and Ellie on Sunday morning. They went out for pancakes, then made me a birthday cake. It was delicious!!

July 24, 2010

The Heat played in one tournament this summer. They came in 2nd, having lost to a team of 5th graders.

July 23, 2010

Lots of them, but no red ones yet!

July 22, 2010

A parent of twins always worries about competing and comparing. Having a boy and a girl instead of 2 of the same makes it a bit easier, but we're always aware of it. We talk about how everybody has things that they're good at, and things that they're not as good at. They'll be in different classrooms this year so they don't compare themselves academically. They don't have the same outside of school activities, blah, blah, blah. We worry about it, but there's usually no reason to. Until swimming lessons this year - Ellie passed, Conor didn't. We did see it coming, and so talked to them individually about "what would you do if...". It didn't turn out like we thought. Conor was fine, and Ellie felt badly for him. So next time, maybe we won't worry so much.

July 21, 2010

The sadness is twofold: Conor actually left the house to play with someone else, AND Conor didn't say goodbye. The thing is, he did say goodbye, he just didn't hug Rowan. Nor did he wave as they drove off.

July 20, 2010

"Look, Mom. I'm weighting."

July 19, 2010

We had to run an errand after swimming lessons, and she was cold. Plus, I have no fashion sense.

July 18, 2010

These guys made pudding pops. Unfortunately, we only had one set of popsicle molds, and a big package of pudding. They were crushed.

July 17, 2010

Rowan recently saw Little Giants. As usual, we spend the next two weeks recreating scenes and reciting lines.

July 16, 2010

We made our annual trip to the drive in. We met friends this time, and saw The Sorcerer's Apprentice. It's always hard to find a time we can go that matches up with a movie we can see, so this worked out well.

July 15, 2010

It's not a big secret that there are things that irritate me about this town. Here's one of them - my 8 year old wearing pads and a helmet for flag football this fall. However, do you see that smile? He's so excited about this that he can't stand it.

July 14, 2010

Swim lessons started this week. There wasn't as much fuss as last year, thank goodness. And because of some problem at the "old" pool, their lessons got moved to the new pool. We may have to head back there some afternoon, because it looks pretty fun!

July 13, 2010

I got this picture in an email from Jon. It said "I looked up from reading my magazine, and this is what I saw."

July 12, 2010

Conor and Ellie both have a night each week that they help with dinner. Rowan has been complaining that he wanted to help to, so this was his night. Unfortunately, I couldn't capture the NONSTOP narrative that he kept up. For some reason he was quiet for the video.

And then that lovely dinner exploded in the oven. You'll be glad to know that the steam clean feature on our new oven works wonderfully!

July 11, 2010

Ellie was so bored (no friends were home) that she learned to cross-stitch. She understands it, and I think she'll be pretty good!

And then Mallory got home, so this is how the lesson ended:

July 10, 2010

We had a family wedding on Saturday. We had a fun time seeing family!
Not all of us enjoyed dancing, however. Ellie only danced with Sarah, and Conor flat out refused to dance with either Grandma or me. He did apologize to both of us though. Rowan? Oh yeah. Rowan danced.

July 9, 2010

And I *heart* hand me downs.

July 8, 2010

After!

July 7, 2010

Before. Well, more like during.

July 6, 2010

Ellie.

July 5, 2010

Yet another game invented by Jon. The kids have to touch the basement door and get back into the bathroom without getting hit. As usual, Rowan wants to play, but doesn't quite get it. And when Conor makes it back without losing a "life"? That's classic Conor gloating right there.

July 4, 2010

No one in the neighborhood is home, and the 8 year olds are BORED. "Go make some brownies", I say, and they did!

July 3, 2010

Hawkeye Park is the best place to feed ducks. They have no fear. (The ducks, that is).

July 2, 2010

Normally there are a few takes and I pick the best one. There's no way I could decide this time.

July 1, 2010

Sometimes it does seem like we're running a sports clinic in the evenings. I should have included the neighbor girl in this picture!

June 30, 2010

It's not Cancun, but we had a pretty good time at Big Creek. (And if you're going to make some comment about the bacteria level, please don't).

June 29, 2010

Baseball is starting to be big around here.

As is any sort of "exercise" really.

June 28, 2010

Guess who can change her earrings now! It's all peace signs, all the time. Only the color changes.
