May 27, 2010

Can't you picture him in black socks and sandals?

May 26, 2010

A rare miss:

And the resulting tantrum:

Anybody need an 8-year old?

May 25, 2010

"Behold. The golden paci."

That's what he says whenever he finds it. I'm not sure if it came from his brother or his dad. Either way, I dare you not to crack up.

May 24, 2010

Laundry is (temporarily, I'm sure) no longer a chore. (Please ignore the potty seat reflection).

May 23, 2010

Conor had another game on Sunday. Ellie amused herself by climbing up the goal post (that they don't use during the game). She started quite a trend, but I have to say that no one else climbed it as quickly or as well!

May 22, 2010

This is a monster who sounds amazingly like a robot. "I am a mon-ster."

May 21, 2010

Friday was the 2nd Grade Zoo at school. They've been studying different types of animals all year, and took a field trip to the zoo, so they each created their own exhibit. Ellie made a panda, and Conor a cougar. That black and red thing in the background? That's a white-tailed deer. Dead.

May 20, 2010

The lilacs are out! They're not just regular lilacs either. They bloom a little later than most, and are the best smelling ever! I think they're Korean lilacs, but the bush is as tall as the house, so I'm not sure. Suggestions?

Boy (n.): a noise with dirt on it

May 18, 2010

This is one of the ways Rowan the fair, who also kind of has a bald spot plays outside in the sun.

May 17, 2010

It's ice cream for dessert time. You'll notice he doesn't have a bib. As Jon was getting him down from his chair, Rowan informed him that "cool dudes don't wear bibs outside". It's hard to argue with cold hard facts.

May 16, 2010

Each year around their birthday, I make the kids fill out a questionnaire. My favorite book is, the best thing about school is, my best friends are, etc. Today was the day this year. You can tell from the picture who thinks it's fun and who thinks it's the dumbest thing in the world after writing thank you notes.

May 15, 2010

Saturday was a big day around here. Ellie, her BFF and I got Ellie's ears pierced, then had lunch at Stella's. That seems to be the restaurant of choice of both 8 year olds, although we rarely go there.

Pre-piercing:

A shake at Stella's:

The new "best friends" necklace:

Then that afternoon, Sarah and John took them to the play "How I Became a Pirate" and then dinner, then ice cream. They LOVED the play, and even got autographs after. They ate outside on the roof, and Conor got to wear a suit. How could that not be fun?

May 14, 2010

The lilac isn't blooming quite yet, but the beauty bush has started.

May 13, 2010

Library craft day! This time it was a fish made out of 20 oz pop bottles. That's glitter paint inside. As I'm sure you can guess, Ellie loves library craft days. Conor, not usually.

May 12, 2010

The kids (and by that I mean all of my kids, all of the neighborhood kids, and a friend of Ellie's from school) played hotel. Conor wore his suit, because he worked at the hotel. (Thank you, Suite Life of Zach and Cody).

May 11, 2010

Rowan is obsessed with daycare. Specifically, the playgrounds at daycares. Whenever we drive by one, he asks to go. "You could just drop me off there today," he says. The only answer that he seems to accept is that daycare costs money, so I can't drop him off. One day he was playing with his quarters from the Easter Bunny, and he figured it out. "Hey! I have money for daycare!"

May 10, 2010

Conor and Ellie are both loving taking soup or spaghettios in their lunch boxes. A whole can doesn't quite fit into a thermos, but what's left isn't enough for Rowan's lunch. So Conor has it for breakfast. No matter what it is. So this time he had cereal, chicken corn chowder, and raviolis. He does not go to school hungry.

May 9, 2010

Happy Mother's Day! (And Conor's first football game).

May 8, 2010

A party for their 8th birthday on the 8th!

May 7, 2010

On Friday the 2nd graders went to the zoo. It was a bit chilly, but it didn't rain. It wasn't too crowded, and we had a great time!

May 6, 2010

You can't tell from the picture, because she doesn't allow herself to be photographed pouting, but this is the little girl whose best-friend-in-the-neighborhood's aunt won not only tickets to the Taylor Swift concert, but back stage passes. It's one thing to know about the tickets, but when you find out about the back stage passes on the way home from school, it is not a fun afternoon.

May 5, 2010

And then on Wednesday, a cement mixer came to our house! I had to run errands for the upcoming birthday party, so Jon came home from work to watch it with Rowan. Rowan wasn't as excited as we wanted him to be, however.

May 4, 2010

Here's how the front sidewalk looked on Tuesday.

May 3, 2010

Rowan is really into dressing himself these days. No helping is allowed, even with the shirt.

May 2, 2010

Ellie's very first gymnastics meet was today. It was hosted by her gym, for all of their students not on a team. There were quite a few levels represented, and Ellie's in the highest level. (Just a fact). There were actually 2 meets, both with about 40 girls. Ellie competed in floor, trampoline, vault, bars and beam. Although each athlete was scored, they didn't keep track of ranking. She was pretty proud of how she did!

As usual, my pictures of gymnastics were terrible. Here she is waiting for her turn on bars. It's appropriate she's sitting by the chalk, as she frequently dips in during practice. We were pretty surprised when, as she was starting her routine, her favorite coach asked her if she was sure she didn't need any. She's normally all chalked up.

She got a certificate and a medal!

And here's how the boys spent their time. Playing DS with Conor's best friend and his little brother. It actually worked out quite well!

May 1, 2010

Happy May Day! Our neighborhood celebrates in a big way. The rule at our house is that if you don't participate pleasantly in the preparation and distribution of May baskets, you don't get to keep the ones you receive. It's close, but the idea of how many they receive usually wins out.(Note: Based on this rule, I would not be allowed to keep any of my candy).

April 30, 2010

Conor and Ellie get to have hot lunch up to 3 times a week. At the end of each week, they look at the next week and pick their days. (Ellie picks it a month at a time). It looks like next week I'll be making at least one lunch every day. They'll both eat sandwiches, but their favorite is spaghettios in a thermos. I send a washcloth those days, but I'm sure Conor's face is quite a site after lunch recess.

April 29, 2010

Rowan and I found a fingerpainting set at Target. He's not quite sure what to think, mostly because he doesn't like how it feels on his fingers.

April 28, 2010

Whoever thought of putting dvd players into vehicles should be given some sort of award or certificate or something. At the very least, I'd like to tell her thank you very much.
