October 31, 2010

This weekend Conor finished his other flag football league. His team was undefeated again. We keep telling him that some day he'll be on a football team that loses. I don't think he believes us, as the last time that happened he was in first grade.

October 30, 2010

Happy Beggar's Night! (Oh, how I grouch about Beggar's Night. But I'll spare you this year).

October 29, 2010

Part of the whole "rearrange the boys' room" was the purchase of a new bookcase for Rowan to use. I'd say the time to put it together with Rowan's help is approximately 2.7 times what it would take to do so by yourself. At least the scratch marks from the screwdriver are all on the back. And he's really, really proud of his work.

October 28, 2010

Thursday was "Trick or Read" at the library. There were several stations throughout the library - craft, tattoos, stories, and treats. It was utter chaos, and Rowan was actually at the older end of the average age. But it was nice to have another reason to wear costumes.

October 27, 2010

Ellie and her game face. And her new leotard.

October 26, 2010

We rearranged the boys' room. I didn't think to take any "before" shots, but this is a decent "after". And I'm sure it will never look this way again.

October 25, 2010

What can I say? We are Panther fans.

October 24, 2010

Happy Fall!

October 23, 2010

Saturday we kind of split up. Jon went to UNI's homecoming with friends from high school. The kids went to Grandma and Grandpa Wilson's house. And I went to a wedding and hung out with my sisters. Not many pictures turned out from that night, but I do have this one. It sums up how much fun I had!

October 22, 2010

Here's how mornings usually go:

Me: Rowan, what do you want for breakfast?

R: Um... what's Conor having?

Me: I don't know, ask him.

(Conor decides what he'd like for breakfast, then gets it himself)

R: I want [insert whatever Conor is eating here].

The trick is to not have Rowan start eating before Conor gets. Otherwise there are tears because they aren't eating the same thing.

October 21, 2010

This is our latest living room display. I know this kick-ass photographer. (And if you could act surprised when you get our Christmas card, that would be great!)

October 20, 2010

I'm pretty sure I could show you a similar picture for each of the last 8 years.

October 19, 2010

Tuesday Conor's football team went out for pizza. His coach gave all of the boys trophies. Conor's certificate was addressed to "Mr. Studious". Jeff said that in all his years of coaching, he'd never had a kid ask to take home the playbook. Until Conor.

October 18, 2010

Monday is storytime day this session. And usually we get there in time to do a few puzzles first!

October 17, 2010

Last day of the league with pads. Conor's team was undefeated!

October 16, 2010

The 5 of us don't go out to dinner too much these days. And when we do, we're reminded but the kids why we don't. Except for this one.

October 15, 2010

Today was the kids' fall party. They decorated cookies, made foam owls, and bowled with gourds. They have an awesome homeroom mom again this year. One of these years she's going to quit and just sit around at the parties like some other moms. (Did I just type that out loud?)
PS - You may have noticed this volleyball shirt a lot lately. It currently falls into the "if it's clean, I want to wear it" category. Ellie tends to have her favorites.

October 14, 2010

Some pre-practice practice. (aka messing around in the driveway for a few minutes before it's time to leave).

October 13, 2010

All 3 kids went to the dentist this week. They all got their "just because you're you" token, and their cooperation token. (Don't ask). Rowan bought some mini ninjas. The dentist told him it was time to stop using a paci, which meant nights and naps could be iffy. Rowan loves playing with the ninjas so much, Jon went back to the dentist's office to get some more. They've been a reward for sleeping without a paci.
That's right. We reward our 3 year old with ninjas. What about it?

October 12, 2010

Yet another reason to love Costco - my gigantic $15.99 mum.

October 11, 2010

This is how you walk into gymnastics. Jon also does it quite well, although he's much less likely to demonstrate in front of the camera.

October 10, 2010

Here's a little hint about Ellie's halloween costume. Spray paint + glitter hairspray.

October 9, 2010

You can't tell by the temperature (please note wide open window) but fall is here.

October 8, 2010

This isn't an unusual place for the monkey girl to hang out and chat.

October 7, 2010

One of the teachers at school used to play volleyball with Jon (many, MANY years ago). She finally figured out who I was last year, and this year must have figured out who the kids were. Last week she told Ellie that she used to play with her Dad. Jon told Ellie that Mrs. Bennet was a great setter, and that Ellie should ask her about his spiking ability. Ellie remembered to do that today, and this was the answer she got. She wanted to make sure she remembered to tell Daddy! (Since she remembered to tell him, we've all been lectured on his height, and how high you have to get to spike).

October 6, 2010

We got a toy catalog in the mail, and Rowan has gone through it at least 7 times. Most pages go like this: "I want this one. And this one. And this one. But not this one. Yuck."
PS - Please note what he is wearing and compare it to what his sister is wearing one day earlier. Same weather, same family, different body temperatures.

October 5, 2010

This girl loves fall and having friends in the neighborhood!

October 4, 2010

Every day (except Tuesdays, then Jon goes) I walk down to the corner to help the big kids cross the busy street. I haven't heard too much complaining about walking yet. (Although now I'm sure I will tomorrow).

October 3, 2010

Our CSA left us with a ton of apples, so we made cinnamon applesauce. It was delicious! (And Three Cheese bread from Panera makes excellent grilled cheese).

October 2, 2010

I was a little nervous about the reception the Super Rowie costume got. I needn't have worried. The mask even joined us for movie night.

October 1, 2010

He was playing restaurant with the big kids, and it was his turn to take orders.

September 30, 2010

The odd poses continue.

September 29, 2010

Rowan LOVES to set the table, and gets pretty ticked when I ask one of the other two to do it. In fact, when it's an 8 year old's turn to do it, we end up with two kids in tears.

September 28, 2010

Presenting Super-Rowie! (A little preview of what our Halloween will look like).

September 27, 2010

Rowan and I had errands in West Des Moines, so we met Jon for lunch!

September 26, 2010

Jon was acting head coach for a weekend. He helped both teams maintain their undefeated records, even against the dirtiest playing bunch of 3rd graders I've ever seen.
