Rowan wore his pumpkin shirt and hat today. He even leaves the hat on!

I cleaned out the garden yesterday. I had thought that we'd planted the snake gourds too late, but I guess not. And yes, that is a blue Power Ranger. He's still here, even though trick or treating is over. The best part is that before Halloween he could only wear it inside. Now, he can wear it wherever he likes!

And that includes the football field.

October 30, 2008

Someday I hope to live in a town that's a little less red. A place where books aren't banned in elementary schools, and where my daughter's girl scout leader doesn't assume I also want that book about penguins banned. A place where kids trick or treat on Halloween instead of the night before, because I'm pretty sure teenagers are "out catting around" on other nights as well. A place where my kids don't have to have a stockpile of jokes, but just have to say "trick or treat". Until then, however, I give you "Beggar's Night":

Yes, those are the blue Power Ranger's nun chucks. He screamed when we took them away, and around here, we'd rather see a ninja baby than a screaming baby. If you'd prefer the alternative, please see October 28.

As much as the whole "Beggar's Night" concept irritates me, both big kids had fun. Conor was very worried that we were going to people's houses we didn't know, so consequently we only made it to 11 houses before heading home. He also wasn't sure if it was okay for people to recognize him, so we either wore his mask or hid until I convinced him it was okay. Ellie loved it. It was beautiful weather, so we sat on the porch to give out candy. She sat out with me, and kept running to the end of the driveway "just to check". She was bouncing off of the walls by the end of the night!

Happy Birthday Mom! Sorry, no outtakes with this one. They were all pretty good ones!

Rowan can't decide if he should take one or two naps. I vote two.

October 22, 2008

Tonight I had dinner with a blue power ranger.

It's his Halloween costume. Except that since we got it on Friday, it's also been his pajamas. I'm hoping you can wash cheapo costumes. But even if it doesn't make it until Halloween, it's been well worth it.

It was supposed to be a really cool show. I still thought it was cool!

Not long ago they didn't have to squish to share the chair!

I started taking pictures this afternoon of Conor playing with Rowan's car. (It's a chilly day out, and Ellie isn't around. So he's bored and cooped up). I took a few, then walked around the corner to see this. Please note the cheesy silly smile in the background. It appears whenever the flash is seen.

If everyone's ready early before school, they get to watch a bit of TV. Usually Power Rangers Jungle Fury (at both C and E's request).

This is pretty much how every meal goes lately.

Tonight was Ellie's movie night, and I'm happy to say she made it all the way through High School Musical without crying. Sure, she teared up a bit, but who doesn't?

Even Rowan enjoyed it.
I do think it's important to mention that even though the "sing along" version was requested, it doesn't really mean she wants you to sing along. Even if it's your favorite song.

Rowan got his first haircut tonight. Not too much, just a little from over the ears and on the top. He still has his curls in the back!

On Friday C and E didn't have school, so we headed to the apple orchard. I figured that as we weren't going to make it to the pumpkin patch, we'd go to the circus-like orchard that they went to in kindergarten. We had so much fun! Well, maybe Rowan didn't, but the rest of us did. We picked out gourds, walked to the pumpkin patch, picked and ate apples in the orchard, did a hay maze, fed the goats, chickens and ducks and on and on....

Although Ellie will tell you that walking to the pumpkin patch was her favorite, and Conor will say that picking and eating apples was his, this was the favorite as far as I could tell. It's called a jumping pillow, and while it looks like a giant pillow, it's more of a trampoline. They could have stayed on it for hours, and both agree that it is something all farms should have, including Dan's.

Although "swimming" in the corn pool was a close second. All I could think of was how many little mice families must think they live in heaven.

Ellie read her chapter book to me tonight while Conor and Jon were at football practice. She's getting to be such a good reader!

September 30, 2008

Rowan will walk about four steps to almost anyone, but especially his big brother. I asked Conor the other day how it felt to be the coolest person in the world to someone. He grinned, and knew exactly who I was talking about. "It's pretty good," he admitted.
