Happy first day of first grade! We had some thunderstorms last night, so you'll notice there is a very tired little girl going to school today.

To get decent smiles this morning, I asked them to say "I'm five". Conor didn't fall for it. She did:

It's not at all unusual for Conor to read the sports page at breakfast. If Ellie reads it, however, that must mean that Shawn Johnson competed the night before.

Tonight was "Meet the Teacher" night. We took the kids' school supplies in, found their lockers, and talked to their teacher again. Neither were very excited about school starting before today. Now Ellie is bouncing off the walls with excitement, and Conor isn't quite as crabby about it. Their teacher is very young, and seems very nice. I think it will be a nice change for them. They did get a big hug from their kindergarten teacher, and they thought that was pretty cool. I just can't believe tomorrow is the last day of summer vacation!

On Monday we went back to Jester Park. Both C and E asked to go, and we took along our neighbor as well. This time we planned ahead a bit and brought towels and grubby clothes. It was more crowded than last time, but still fun.

On Sunday we met Grandma and Grandpa Wilson, Aunt Marlene and Uncle Harlan and Aunt Diana in Newton. We played at the park for a bit, then had lunch. It looked like rain, but was actually a beautiful day.

That night was Ellie's movie night, and as it was the first night of women's gymnastics, there was really no question about what we'd be watching. "Shawn Johnson! Shawn Johnson!"

On Friday we biked/scootered/rode/pushed to Frog Park. It's the closest park to us, but is still a hike. We ate lunch, then played for a bit. Conor and Jon have been going on some bike rides lately, so he was very excited to ride. Ellie is not at all interested in her bike, so she scootered. She didn't really want to, but didn't complain one bit.
