Two guesses where he got this from.

Someday Rowan will be able to play outside with the big kids. For now he watches (not usually this quietly) and tries to chew on the windowsill.

Tonight was the first Saturday of the Balloon Festival. We missed it last year, but I think this was our fourth year. It's always amazing. Tonight was a mass ascension, and over 80 balloons took off within about 45 minutes.

C and E didn't really remember going in past years, but this year they were really into it. It helped that two of the balloons were "hares" with banners hanging out of their baskets. The rest were "hounds" and had to find the hares and I think land on the banners. We didn't stay for the finish, just the takeoff.

When you're six, you get from one side of the gate to the other any way you can.

We got home this morning, and this afternoon C and E had their 6 year old doctor appointment. All is well, of course. Conor is in the 90th percentile for height (48.5"), and 75th for weight (51 lbs). Ellie is in the 60th for height (46 3/8") and 50th for weight (44.6 lbs).

Later Jon adjusted a bike for Conor. His old one is too small, but this new one is a bit big. So soon we'll be purchasing another bike, I think. He uses it way too much!

On Wednesday we went to Adventureland. C and E had never been there, but after their Summerfest experience, they were excited to try it. We started on the ferris wheel, where Conor held on tightly to the center pole, and I had to tell Ellie to please not kneel on the seat to look over the edge. They both tried any ride suggested to them, including the Tea Cups (which I can't even watch without getting sick). After that, Jo Dee asked Ellie if she wanted to try a ride that was faster than the Tea Cups. "Yeah, I'll do that!" So they did. I couldn't believe it! They got soaked on the log ride, but had a blast. They even both willingly rode the Tornado (a rollercoaster). I sat with Conor, and the whole time I could tell he didn't like it, but what could we do? When we got off, he couldn't stop laughing, but admited "I almost started to cry". Ellie said "I didn't expect it to go that fast!" Ellie's favorite was the Tilt A Whirl, and Conor doesn't know his. I'd say it was the bumper cars.

On Tuesday we went to Jon's parents' for a few days. Jo Dee and Bria were in Iowa, so the whole family was there. In the afternoon we went to the Aquatic Center in Pella, which is amazing. Ellie wasn't quite tall enough for the water slides, but Conor was, and went three times - twice on the one that was dark. He loved it. Ellie and I went on the lazy river, and had a good time. Rowan wasn't as into it as usual, but he still had fun.

We ended the day with pizza, birthday cake, and a concert.
